Research basis and core role
This is AMZ12’s research-based assessment of Google Analytics, not a hands-on test. Google’s official overview describes measurement across websites and apps, reporting, attribution and connections with other Google products. Google operates the service. This profile evaluates the role of measurement in an ecommerce workflow without claiming a particular sales result.
Where it may fit
Our editorial judgement is that Google Analytics belongs on the shortlist when the team needs a shared way to discuss acquisition and the customer journey. Start with three decisions the reports should help someone make. For example, a store might want to review how a campaign attracts interest, where a purchase journey becomes uncertain and which content needs further investigation.
Those questions should determine the measurement plan. Write a plain definition of each important action and nominate the person responsible for checking it. A larger reporting vocabulary can make a dashboard look impressive while making routine discussion less clear. Prefer a small set of understood measures that the team will actually revisit.
Constraints to resolve
Do not assume that installing a tool creates a trustworthy business record. Review the proposed configuration against the store’s real purchase journeys, including cancellation and interrupted checkout. Decide how the team will explain differences between analytics reports and operational order records. Our recommendation is to document those boundaries before using a report as the basis for a consequential change.
Access, data collection and ongoing maintenance need named owners. Ask the responsible colleagues to review the intended configuration and their organisation’s requirements. Also establish how a theme update, new checkout or changed campaign naming convention will trigger a measurement review. These are evaluation priorities, not claims that the overview establishes a complete implementation procedure.
Evaluation checklist
- Write the decisions each report should inform.
- Define important actions and campaign naming rules.
- Review ordinary, failed and amended purchase journeys.
- Assign configuration, access and maintenance ownership.
- Record known reporting limits before sharing conclusions.
AMZ12’s assessment
Consider Google Analytics when the business can maintain a clear measurement plan alongside the software. Prioritise a useful reporting routine over collecting every available number. Require an explanation of the data’s limits with each recommendation. AMZ12 enquiries request independent editorial help understanding this review; Google and your implementation provider remain responsible for their product, account and configuration support.
