What the provider offers
Gorgias presents an ecommerce helpdesk and AI Agent in one platform. Its overview describes a shared inbox, Shopify customer and order context, connected channels and actions within conversations.
This research-based assessment uses official provider information and includes no hands-on testing. Gorgias operates the service; AMZ12 provides independent editorial guidance. Our judgement is that a merchant should assess the quality of the handoff between a customer conversation and a store action.
Where it may fit
Consider Gorgias when staff regularly switch between a message and an order record to solve a customer problem. Count the decisions involved in a common request: checking identity, understanding the order, consulting policy, taking action and explaining the outcome. Use that process to define your evaluation.
Choose several ordinary cases as well as an awkward one. An address change before dispatch is different from a cancellation after fulfilment has started. Ask the support lead and operations lead to agree the required outcome before discussing automation. Conflicting business policies cannot be settled by an inbox alone.
Constraints to investigate
Our editorial concern is the authority granted to people and automated workflows. Identify which actions require approval, which should be restricted and where an action must be recorded. Verify the exact connection and permissions for your store configuration rather than assuming all advertised actions apply universally.
Ask the provider to explain current commercial terms, channel inclusion and usage definitions for the proposed setup. Assign someone to maintain policies and review automated responses. Keep a route for customers whose circumstances do not fit the standard answer or who need a human to make a decision.
A practical evaluation checklist
Walk through a permitted test order, a partial shipment, a refund request and a customer replying through another channel. Check what context reaches the agent, who can act and how the final decision is visible to a colleague. These are suggested checks, not AMZ12 test results.
Review duplicate conversations, identity checks, access removal for departing staff and the record of automated actions. Sample cases judged resolved and look for repeat contact about the same problem. Agree your own quality criteria rather than adopting a provider's headline automation claim as a business target.
AMZ12 decision guidance
Shortlist Gorgias when the store connection can reduce avoidable handoffs without weakening accountability. A useful support workflow should make the customer outcome clearer to the whole team, including the person handling a later follow-up.
